Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the pleasure of teaching an amazing group of Kindergarten students this year. They are excited about school and learning. They are motivated to do their best. They work hard and they love to learn and to have fun.
Our school is in an urban district and in a high-poverty neighborhood.
100% of our students receive free lunch. These students face challenges every day of their lives from how they get to school, their home lives, and the support they get at home for their education. Many come from single parent families who, though they work, remain at or below the poverty line.
My students deserve all the help they can get to make their educational experience the absolute best that it can be. This will help my students to work up to their potential to become the absolute best that they can be.
My Project
My students are required to spend between 30-40 minutes total on technology over the course of their learning day. Using Chromebooks and iPads, students login to apps that support their learning in literacy and math. These apps are created to provide instruction and support that is individualized for each student to maximize their learning.
Wireless headphones will help to enhance this learning process for my students.
We currently have a mix of headphones and ear buds, all wired. Their small ears are not designed to fit ear buds, which students often find uncomfortable to wear, making it difficult for them to pay attention to the task before them because the ill-fitting earbuds frequently fall out of their little ears. Anxious students sometimes chew on the wires and render the ear buds or ear phones inoperable. The wires are often tangled in the process of storing them and precious time is wasted in trying to untangle wires or in helping students find a working pair. Having access to wireless headphones will eliminate damage to wires and tangled headsets. Without wires, students will better be able to focus and attend to the task at hand and to do their best work. Over-the-ear headphones will fit all students more comfortably and will facilitate their learning in simple but immeasurably helpful ways.
