Everyday we welcome one hundred, four and five year olds through our school doors. We are thrilled that with our new preschool expansion, we are able to offer full day Preschool to more families within our city neighborhood. To help make this new transition, we would love for our five classrooms to be equal in the supplies we provide the children. To make this happen, we need the community's help to close the gap with supplies that we have been provided through previous DonorsChoose.org projects!
Our students represent the melting pot of America.
There are fourteen different languages spoken among our students, and come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. We are in a large, urban city, and part of the third largest school district in the country.
Our school is a pre-k through eighth grade building that serves over one thousand students. We are an IB World School that focuses' on inquiry-based learning and provides experiences for our students to become globally minded citizens. All of our students are brought to school by their parents as this is a neighborhood school.
My Project
Many students come to school without having been read to by a parent or guardian. Studies show that early aged students, surrounded by rich environmental texts and strong literacy programs, are highly correlated to academic achievement in the later years. In knowing the fast growing emphasis in increasing early childhood literacy, our preschool team would like to have listening centers in all five of our classrooms. These wireless head sets and CD/cassette players will offer us the flexibility and endless opportunities to thread resources throughout our curriculum each year! With these listening centers, we will be able to offer our children the opportunity to hear a familiar story in a different way, increase their oral vocabulary, listening comprehension, phonemic awareness and so much more!
