My students come to school filled with curiosity, smiles and an innocent desire to belong. Despite the many hardships and extremely difficult circumstances that are beyond their control, they arrive each day motivated to learn and eager to tackle their new adventures. Our school is in an urban, high poverty area and one hundred percent of our students qualify for free lunch. Our diverse backgrounds give us so much to share and learn from each other. Many students have had experiences that most of us cannot imagine and over one third of our students are English language learners. Despite these obstacles, my students want to learn!
Please help me to provide my students with headphones to be used with technology. Our lessons are designed to improve phonics, reading fluency and comprehension skills and to help prepare our students for state testing.
Our instruction is individualized and engaging and the students look forward to it.
Having the ability to stay focused and decrease outside distractions will help to improve reading levels. Many of our students do not have computers at home, providing them with this opportunity will help prepare them for real world experiences.
My students have been hard at work becoming authors and illustrators. We will use the glue, markers, card stock and construction paper to publish our own non fiction books that will be a lasting keepsake from kindergarten.
