Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hi, I am a kindergarten teacher who loves to teach and expand the minds of my students. I have wonderful students who love to explore, investigate, and learn. I have 24 students in my classroom from various backgrounds and socioeconomic status.
My students have a smile on their face and are eager to learn in my classroom.
Many of my students enjoy having opportunities to learn about different cultural experiences. My students are excited to interact with their fellow classmates and build a classroom setting that is proactive while also synergizing. From my perspective, the students that have been coming into my classroom lately have a sparse oral vocabulary due to the fact that life is busy and electronics and technology are everywhere. It is my goal to provide opportunities for my students to develop their language, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
My Project
Having the opportunity to listen to rich literature is vital when learning to read, write and speak. My students will benefit from having a listening center where they can listen to stories to expand their vocabulary and foster a love for reading. My students need opportunities to be engaged in reading because school may be the only place where they are read to.
In addition, a listening center will provide my students with an extra model of fluent reading during our language arts rotations, when I am working with students in small groups and I cannot personally read for the rest of them.
Finally, books on tape many times are embellished with silly voices and dramatic enhancements which makes the students feel like reading is a fun time rather than just work.
