My students need a CD player and headphones so they can actively listen to books independently during literacy rotations.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a school that serves Kindergarten through 4th grade students. We are a Title I school where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. We also have a very high population of ELL students, many of whom do not speak English. We are constantly looking for innovative and interesting ways to help these students reach their full potential.
Despite their challenges, my students come to school eager to learn.
Providing ways to help them achieve their personal goals and encouraging them to be life-long learners is my ambition.
My Project
One of my greatest hopes for my students is that they not just learn to read, but learn to LOVE reading! Listening to books being read at a Listening Center is a great way to get students excited about reading. They can read along with the story, easily see the pictures in the book, and be actively engaged in their own learning. Having their own headphones is a great way to keep them engaged in the story and less likely to "zone out.”
In addition to improving reading skills, using a listening center will give students practice with life skills, such as following directions and working together with their peers.
A Listening Center will greatly improve my Literacy Block and give my students a fun and educational activity that they can do independently while I am working with other small groups of students.
