Our sixth-grade students are from a public elementary school with an extremely unique population of children. The school is designed to help students with language-based learning disabilities such as dyslexia. During the school day our students can be found in whole group activities, small group discussions, and independent assignments. Our students learn best when movement, hands on activities, and visuals/auditory are used to teach school topics. They enjoy investigating ancient peoples, making replicas of artifacts in our Maker Space, and working in groups.
It is important as a sixth grade teacher that my students love to learn, have experiences which enhance their learning and help them better understand the world around them.
By providing my students with headphones they will have a way to auditory engage with the videos, near-pods and texts that we use in our lessons.
My Project
My students learn best with auditory and visual learning. By providing each student with headphones, it will ensure that each one of them will be given the opportunity to reach the highest level of their educational potential. This year the goal is to explore and extend their knowledge of topics by using resources such as near-pod, embedded audio recordings of the text, and voice-to-text software.
To use these wonderful resources, students need headphones.
When provided with these headphones, they will go into use the first day given. We will label them with students' names to support a sense of ownership, and teach them a level of independence and responsibility. Thank you for making these educational opportunities possible for our students.
