My first grade students are full of energy the moment they walk in the door. I stand at the door every morning and greet each one by name. Our school is a Title 1 school, so that means we have low income families that rely on our school to provide breakfast and lunch, as well as take care of the academic, social, and emotional needs of each child. We are also a very diverse school. Last year, we had 17 different languages. Many of those students and their families didn't speak any English when they started at our school.
My goal is to meet each student where they are and identify their specific needs.
Then I address their needs and expect to see growth from there. Our school is very transient, so we constantly have students moving in and out of our school. This poses many challenges for our students. They are constantly having to adapt to their new surroundings. My first priority is to earn their trust and respect.
My Project
Headphones are on our school supply list, but many families can not afford to get all of the items on it. Headphones are vitally important to our first grade classroom because we use the school provided Chromebooks everyday!
If every student had their own headphones, it would cut down on the computer noise in the room, and ultimately cut down on distractions.
A pocket chart to store the headphones will keep them in a safe place so they do not get broken or lost. This project will help teach students to take care of the technology resources that we have available to help them learn and grow.
