Kindergarten is a wonderful and magical time of learning! Kindergartners are curious and love hands-on learning activities. There are so many wonderful ways to incorporate hands-on activities into a classroom to make learning more meaningful and help students make deeper connections to learning standards. My goal is to make my classroom a place where all types of learners can feel confident and be successful.
I am a first year teacher and I am starting from scratch.
I am so excited to provide a classroom that is fun and engaging that provides ample opportunities for students to work together and be creative and innovative. I am so excited, and I know this will be a wonderful year!
My Project
These books with CDs would be used in our classroom listening center, utilizing literacy materials integrated across the curriculum, to reinforce our language curriculum. Children take great pleasure in listening to stories. Books like the Dr. Suess set help to teach important phonemic awareness and rhyming skills. The dinosaur books help to teach important social-emotional skills for young children. The Eric Carle books help to teach about nature, prediction, and art. The little old lady books teach all about retelling and sequencing in a silly and dramatic way.
Hearing books read on CD helps children see how the words on the page can come alive in a fluid, expressive way.
It helps them focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provides a model of fluent reading. Audio books also give them an important introduction to listening—a skill they must master in order to learn to read. My goal is to create an area where children can listen to, dramatize, tell and retell stories, as well as follow recorded directions.
Many books on CD have interesting sound effects, music, and multiple narrators that are especially motivating and fun for young children. When listening to audiobooks, children also develop a sense of narrative structure and understanding of language. Stories on tape help them to grasp the rich and various ways in which language distills and conveys meaning. In addition, exposing children to a range of narrators and their different styles of reading will deepen their grasp of the reading process.
