Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school is home to a very diverse group of students. My students are high-risk and come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of my students face challenges before they even arrive at school each day. Many of these challenges include situations many adults have never had to face in their lifetime.

Many of my students may go to bed hungry and may not even have a bed to sleep in each night.

I want my students to be able to learn in a safe and comfortable environment. Our classroom is a mobile unit, but I try and make it feel as warm and welcoming as possible.

My Project

My students were lucky enough to get Chromebooks though Donors Choose. Now they need headphones to use with their Chromebooks.

Many of the learning websites my students use have a listening component, so it can get very noisy with 25 students all trying to hear their own Chromebook activity.

It can also make it difficult for others to concentrate.

These headphones will help also my students be better prepared for lessons and computer-based activities. The headphones will not only keep students focused and on task on the technology, but also keep out distractions that may be around them.

Technology is an important part of the classroom. It is important for students today to be able to show their learning through the use of technology.
