My students need a CD with cassette player, 8 headphones, junction box, listen & learn phonics activity programs, and listen and learn phonemic awareness activity program.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
During literacy stations, students will use the cd/cassette player and headphones to be able to listen and participate in phonemic awareness activities.
With your help this could be the year that magic happens and students will be able to strengthen their listening skills.
I teach at an arts infused, partial magnet school that serves children from CD - 4th grade, many of which live in poverty.
We are growing our school as we go and do not have many resources.
I teach a fabulous group of first graders. They have such creative and imaginative minds. They love to be read to and complete listening activities. Fostering good listening skills in early childhood is no different from building any other type of skill; it requires engaging practice.
My hope is to give students the chance to foster their listening skills, but in order to make this happen I need a proper listening center.
My Project
My students' favorite part of the day is when we go to Literacy Stations. Students are busy working in small groups to practice building their reading skills. Students are engaged in reading with a buddy, reading independently, or reading with the teacher, but an important component is missing....Listening to reading!
My students are in need of a Listening Center so that they can have a book read to them again and again! It will provide them with a good model of fluent reading.
Donations to my project will have a profound impact on my students' reading abilities.
It will change my students' lives for the better as they will have more opportunities to be read to and be exposed to wonderful children's literature. Listening to stories will enhance their voice as they begin to read with more expression and be able to comprehend the details of the story. Thank you for making a difference!
