Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

You love your podcasts, audiobooks, etc. and my third graders LOVE listening to books on CD! They get to listen to a favorite story while learning how to read with expression at a natural, fluent pace. I don't own any audiobooks and my students have exhausted the small collection in my school's library. In order to provide them with the opportunity to continue participating in this necessary, educational and fun activity, I need a set of books and CDs. I will put the books in my Listening Center, which all my students use at least once a week. Listening to a fluent reader helps my students of ALL levels learn to read fluently. Listening to stories read aloud also increases their interest in books, motivating them to become even better readers. WHO will use the books and CDs? I have an amazingly diverse group of bright, motivated, caring students. The majority of my students speak a language besides English at home and a handful are English language beginners. Some of my students receive special education services within the classroom. My students are very respectful with classroom materials and will take care of the books and CDs so future classes can use them. WHERE will the CD players be? I teach at a public, urban, Title 1 school in a large city. As a pilot school, we focus on innovation, high standards for students and staff, family involvement and partnerships with local organizations. I was a DonorsChoose donor long before I became a teacher. I can attest to the wonderful feeling that comes from helping a passionate teacher I’d never met meet the needs of his/her students, who I’d also never met. Now I'm on the other end of the DonorsChoose process and I love that my students get to see a great example of people helping other people. Thank you for your support!
