Most students come to school with at least one pair of headphones, however they are typically wireless earbuds. Some of our 1:1 devices allow the students to pair their earbuds with the device using Bluetooth, but not all of the devices have that function.
Many of today's students are auditory learners.
Reinforcing the new content being taught is often more successful when the students are engaged using videos or other audio tools. In my classroom, we use EdPuzzles frequently. Normally we have to complete them in Live Mode as a class so that 20+ computers aren't playing a video at the same time while all in different spots. It results in headaches for everyone and makes it impossible to focus on your specific video. But even Live Mode has its downsides. Not all the students move at the same pace, but Live Mode prevents them from digesting the material at their own speed. They may need to rewatch a segment to find the answer to the question but they're hesitant to speak up in front of the whole class.
Having a class set of headphones to provide the students would enable more individual learning and allow for more differentiation.
