This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school motto is "Our Future Begins Here." Shouldn't students have every advantage in order to succeed? My students need the opportunity to learn in the best environment possible.
I teach in a large, diverse K-8 school in a high poverty area in Philadelphia where all of the children are eligible for free lunch.
The children come to school eager to learn. They have various abilities, and I want all of my students to be the best they can be. In order to make that happen, I would like to provide them with the tools necessary to succeed.
My Project
My students are at various reading and math levels. I want to instill a love of reading in my students. The listening center will allow small group of students to listen to stories of different genres. It helps students focus on the sounds of words. and they will be able to acquire new sight words. Fluency is a skill that children need to master. The narrators on the CDs/cassettes provide a model of fluent reading. Listening centers also help children develop comprehension skills. As a result of listening to stories, the children will remain engaged and be motivated to become independent readers.
They need modern technology to increase their 21st century skills needed to make them college ready.
This project will allow my students to learn about their environment and learn about recycling by listening to stories on CDs. One of the CDs that they will listen to is The Magic Schoolbus. After reading, students will be able to work together to create art to demonstrate what they have learned.
