An early first grade classroom is such an exciting place with a mix of interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read and write sentences, while some of their classmates are learning beginning phonics and how to properly form letters! As they leave the kindergarten world, they are so early in their reading exposure and experience!
In this class, we will celebrate our differences while always striving to be our best selves!
Our class is part of a school that sets goals high and works hard to reach those goals. As my students progress through their understanding of comprehension and phonics skills, my students grow their love for reading!
My Project
My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark their interest in reading. According to Scholastic, listening to audio books can add life and depth to a child's reading experiences.
Exposing students to a range of voices and reading styles, can help encourage them to grasp concepts.
Teachers often set up a listening center so that small groups of children can listen to a text read aloud to them. This center is fun for students and can help deepen their understanding for printed word in a text. I often pair listening center texts with activities that connect to comprehension skills we are working on within our classroom.
Having the requested iPods in the classroom will broaden my abilities within the listening center. With this valuable piece, I can quickly and easily expose my children to a wide range of children's literature. I plan to add audio books onto the iPods for use in my listening center.
