My Students

The students in my first grade classroom come from a variety of backgrounds and families. Many are raised by grandparents and even great-grandparents. I have eight boys and 10 girls in my class this year. They come from homes that range from poverty level, to middle class. Most of their parents work, but some rely on welfare and other government help in order to survive.

Our classroom is often the only solace and structure some of them have in their lives.

I strive to make their environment as comfortable and inviting as possible.

My Project

These headphones will allow my students the comfort of headphones instead of earbuds. Our school asks that students bring in their own headphones for computer use. Most of them can only afford the cheap earbuds. The earbuds are uncomfortable and not easy for first graders to use.

I have spent my own money for headphones but they are cheap and break easily.

At this point in the school year we are down to only 5 or 6 working pairs. Students have to share and rotate the headphones.

I would love for each of my 18 pandas to have their own pair. They will be asked to keep up with and take care of their own headphones, which will teach responsibilty.
