Listen Up! Music and Spoken Word Materials for 1st Graders
Help me give my students a Bluetooth speaker to project music from other devices, a diverse collection of music CDs, and a small storage unit for our listening center.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher at a Title I school, my students are faced with challenges inside and outside of the classroom. My ultimate goal is, in partnership with their parents and families, to help to guide them to become outstanding citizens who believe in their potential and persist in reaching their goals.
My first graders this year are engaged learners who are energized by music or spoken word.
Teaching through song, musical transitions, listening to books read aloud -- these are their favorite moments of the day.
My Project
My students respond very positively to music and spoken word used in a variety of ways in the classroom. The Bluetooth speaker will help me to project music for musical transitions and while playing calm music during writing or mindfulness time.
I feel that it is very important to expose children to diverse genres of music.
The collection of CDs would allow me to have a range of types of music to choose from.
Finally, my 1st graders love to listen to books or songs read aloud and follow along in the text. While we are lucky enough to have materials for a listening center, we do not have a easy-to-use storage system like I've requested.
