Students in our schools come from very diverse backgrounds and from all around the world. The range of economic backgrounds in our city is vast. With great leadership and administration in my school, we work hard to advocate for our students in order to provide them with as many opportunities as possible. We support our students through differentiation and enrichment, which often is provided through grant programs. Many of our students don't have these types of opportunities outside of school. This is often due to overwhelming costs which many of our families in Stamford just can't afford privately. It's difficult to provide a comfortable, inviting place for our students to learn when our budget continues to be cut every year and without proper funding. When students are in school, this is often the only place for many of them to feel safe and thrive in a positive environment.
Students in my class would like a microphone for our second grade classroom. Our share time is so important to our morning meeting and we want to make sure everyone is heard! The microphone will also help with phonics instruction time so that we can all hear the correct sounds clearly. Furthermore, with our masks on, the microphone will help with hearing each other a little better. I hope the students will enjoy using the microphone and also be able to hear me a bit more clearly. We can’t wait to use this!
