My Students

My students range from kindergarteners to second graders. They have a wide range of disabilities including autism, health impairments, and specific leaning disabilities. With all their differences, my students have one thing in common: they love school and they love coming to learn every day! They have fun in the classroom singing, dancing, and learning. Most of my students need significant accommodations to participate and be successful in the school learning environment. My students attend a Title I school that has at least 40% of the students receiving free/reduced lunches.

My Project

Reading books is one of my favorite and most memorable memories from school. My students are also learning to love reading in my classroom. Since all of my students are just beginning the journey to reading, they need help when exploring books. The listening center will allow my students to independently listen to books during our reading centers. My students will have a designated space where they can explore non-fiction texts, become lost in other worlds, and enjoy classic tales. By implementing the listening center, my students will begin to see themselves as readers. We will use the listening center materials to help us in the process of becoming life-long readers.
