This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a high poverty area and face many challenges at such a young age. Many of them are not on grade level in reading or math. Despite these challenges, my students show a strong love for learning. I try to create an environment where they can feel loved and appreciated while supporting their needs.
Energetic, enthusiastic, and kind are just a few words to describe my 22 lovely kindergarteners.
They bring me such joy in knowing that they want to learn!
My Project
A Listen Along book library will help to enhance my students’ ability to increase their comprehension skills. It will also create a print-rich environment in my classroom. Young learners learn first through print seen from the environment. Having a variety of print around the classroom will encourage and enhance their understanding of the importance of reading.
Comprehension skills are necessary for student success!
I have an amazing CD/Cassette Player System, however, I do not have the necessary read-along books and CDs. My students love when I read stories to them and I believe that adding a listening center would be highly beneficial. I have chosen this selection of books based on my student’s interests as well as their need to understand their culture. After listening to the stories, students will draw and/or write about the setting, characters and major events.
