My students need 20 pairs of headphones to help them succeed during everyday learning on our class Chromebooks and during our computerized assessments.
We are a Title 1 school that provides a lot of support to families who may need extra assistance to make sure their child is clothed and fed. Many of my students receive free and reduced breakfast and lunch. Our school provides a fruit or veggie snack each afternoon for all students. Despite the challenges my students may face, I want to give them meaningful school experiences so they can grow and learn.
My students are smart, funny, creative, and kind.
Each day they come into the classroom excited to learn. They enjoy reading and using technology to learn new things. I strive to give my students as many hands-on opportunities as possible to keep their bodies moving and their minds learning.
My Project
The use of technology is an everyday occurrence in my classroom. During both reading and math, students participate in a variety of learning centers. Each day one of our centers is the technology station. During math, students use Chromebooks to play math games that help them develop essential skills. During reading, students use the Chromebooks to listen to and read books that interest and engage them. Currently, I only have 4 pairs of headphones for my entire class. This makes it difficult for students to stay focused on their academic tasks. They hear each others' computers and become distracted from their work.

In addition to daily, computer-based learning, I use the Chromebooks for monthly assessments that determine the specific math and reading instruction each student will receive. This differentiated instruction is vital to the academic accomplishments of every student in my class. Currently, I have only enough headphones for my students who require them in their Individualized Education Plan. However, even my students who do not have an IEP, require the basic tools that will help them to maintain their focus and achieve academic success.
