My students need durable headphones that can be sanitized between uses.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Every morning, we start our day with our scholar pledge, which is lead solely by the students: "I am Self-sufficient, I am Courageous, I am Hungry for knowledge, I am Original, I am a Leader, I am Articulate, I am Responsible, Respectful, Resilient and empowered to make positive choices every day!" Our school is located in a high-poverty urban environment where there are over 35,000 students enrolled in the district. As a Title I school, approximately 99% of our students receive free lunch and 35% of our student population has special needs. We are committed to student achievement and making the dreams of every child a new reality. I am responsible for educating 50 fifth grade scholars in math concepts that will allow them to be successful in their education and show them how these concepts relate to their daily life.
Imagine sitting in a classroom with 25 students using Chromebooks, who are all listening to and completing different activities. The noise level is loud and distracting! My students are in desperate need of durable headphones. We would use these headphones at our technology center and during our Math on Technology Day.
Math on Technology Day is every held every Monday and all students use Chromebooks for the entire lesson.
At the designated technology table, we have a minimum of 12 students working independently on computer-based math programs that offer enrichment activities and as many as 24 students on Mondays. The activities that students complete on the computer range from educational math lessons, math videos, science videos and games during free time. Having durable headphones that can be sanitized would provide all students with the opportunity to focus without distractions and minimize germs between uses.
