Listen Up ... Headphone to Increase Student Engagement
My students need headphones to be able to increase engagement in reading and math through the use of iPads we recently received. The label maker will help me organize these newly obtained materials.
Picture adorable smiling faces, a boatload of energy, and an eagerness to learn as well as to share all of their own life experiences. Then you'll know what it looks like to walk into our classroom each day. I have the great pleasure of having a very diverse population of students in our classroom, each very unique in learning style and academic capabilities.
Portland, Maine is home to a diverse culture and a wide range of socioeconomic statuses which are seen throughout the city and in each one of the classrooms.
We have a high percentage of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch. All students need to have a community that supports them, enables them to be themselves, and fosters skills and tools for successful learning.
My Project
Recently our school was lucky enough to get used iPads for the second graders. (Cue the clapping.) However, with these new awesome electronics comes the challenge of obtaining headphones so each student can use it without distracting people around them.
These headphones will enable the students to be able to use the iPad apps to practice their reading skills and mathematical skills at their independent and instructional levels without distracting those around them.
Keeping student engagement high is a challenge all teachers face and with the use of the iPads and headphones it will increase engagement for all learners.
When working on beginning reading skills, students go through books like water. Being able to access reading apps to keep students engaged with high-interest low-level texts for beginner readers will help leaps and bounds. Headphones will also help me to quickly access apps to help my ELL students too.
