Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in an economically and socially disadvantaged area. The school is over 85% Hispanic/minority based with 90% classified as low income. The students do not have many resources or technology available to aid in their development of skills for our modern society.
Many students do not have access to technology and what they do have access to is very limited.
Many of my students do not have the right materials, resources, or access to the internet and technology at home to aid in strengthening their skills.
However, they still deserve an education that will prepare them for their future. They are enthusiastic learners aware of their situations and surroundings. My students are motivated and open to learning so they can strengthen their skills and better their future.
My Project
My project consists of providing better quality, adjustable headphones that better fit my students. Headphones would be used to help the students listen to audio devices, video clips, and review recordings they created on the Chromebooks.
Headphones are used to engage the students in audio and video content that improve their understanding of the subject.
Some of the activities for the students would include; seeing and hearing examples of what they are learning about through video without disrupting others, they can listen to the computer read the text, translate or pronounce vocabulary, or they can even review their own videos and recordings without hearing other sounds or background noise while they edit.
Many of my current headphones have broken over the years, they hurt the kids ears because they are not adjustable, and take up a lot of space. A new class set of headphones would be ideal for my students to use when exploring online sources, listening to historical clips or videos, or working on their class projects that require each student to listen intently and at their own pace.
