My students need a Listening Center for our classroom!

My Students

Do you enjoy listening to stories? Book being read aloud or even books on tape? My Kindergarten students love listening to stories being read aloud and I want to add to that with a Ready-To-Go Listening Center.

My students are in Kindergarten, and are part of a charter school in Long Island City, New York that focuses on choral music.

Currently the school is growing year by year. We are a kindergarten through sixth-grade school that will eventually reach the eighth-grade. We have a very diverse population in our school.

My Project

Picture yourself pulling out your favorite book, getting into a cozy spot and start reading. Reading brings many of us pure enjoyment and entertainment. I want to help bring that to each of my Kindergarten students. Listening to stories being read out loud through a Ready-To-Go Listening Center will bring many positive benefits to their own reading. Storytellers embellish the story being read by adding in fun character voices and sound effects. My students will also be able to practice one-to-one word correspondence which is a skill needed for everyone learning how to read independently. A listening center will also provide help to struggling readers so they can hear fluency and intonation during the reading. All of these benefits and more will help all of my students, especially those that are struggling with reading.

This Ready-To-Go Listening Center will be a benefit to every student in my class.

Having this extra resource for my students will certainly set them up for success with reading. I want my students to enjoy reading and reap all of the benefits from reading. Helping my students to feel successful, especially those that struggle with reading, is my one and only goal as their teacher.
