My students need a listening center to hear their books being read aloud before attempting to read them at home. Listening to stories can be a bridge towards becoming an independent reader!

My Students

Each year I am blessed to be teaching such amazing, caring, sharing students. They all bring such diverse talents into my room, and into each other's lives. Many of them live in ESL homes, almost three-fourths receive free and reduced-price lunch. Our school family focuses on potential, on personal goals, and possibilities!

I have 26 active, creative students in my class.

Working together, supporting each other, and trying to encourage each other has become second nature to them. We focus on helping each other achieve our personal best, knowing it looks different for each and every one of us.

My Project

My students need to have many opportunities to hear stories being read by fluent readers since many of them are English Language Learners. By hearing these stories, students will be exposed to many words that they haven't heard before. By listening to their books before reading them independently, they can begin to read with more confidence.

One area my students struggle the most with is reading fluently.

I'm requesting a CD player with 6 headphones so that I can set up a listening station. At this station, students will be able to listen to stories as they follow along with their book.

In my classroom, we practice reading daily through a variety of opportunities. The addition of this technology would give my students some much-needed practice in reading fluently. Students who are confident in their reading abilities will be ready to face the challenges of higher education and the workplace.
