Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a second year teacher at a large elementary school in the South Bronx. I am proud to teach a self-contained 5th grade classroom of 25 students. Many of my students are 3 to 4 years behind in reading. Due to this, many of my students would benefit from having a listening center where they can listen to full books on tape while reading along with them. I have a CD player, tape player, and headphones for my students to be able to listen to books on tape. However, I am missing tapes and books that my students need to make the center the most productive it can be. I also am in need of blank cassette tapes that would enable me to record the books that students are reading and would enable students to be able to record and listen to themselves reading. All of my students would benefit from the use of these materials, and I would be able to use these materials in other years with other students. Since my students need a lot of help in reading, it would enable me to better focus my instruction on the students who are in desperate need. The materials that I have selected would be used with a guided reading group, further enhancing my student performance. It would give me the resources to help the students in the ways they need it.
