Help me give my students the love of music. Auditory processing is a area most of my students struggle with, by adding music and beats to reading and math the connection are made faster for the students.
Learning is made by little steps every day. The students in this class need extra assistance in school. They all receive special education services. They make strides in life at their own pace with support from the school personnel. The students are delayed in many areas, in the class they learn social, academic, communication, daily living skills, and community-based instruction. The learning in the class is brought on by small steps to reach the big goal. The small steps are celebrated big.
We are in a rural area where resources are limited for services besides school instruction.
In this classroom, I try to compensate for this by doing many activities to help the students gain skills to access the regular education setting and to set the foundation for future access in our community.
My Project
Many of my students use music as a way of calming themselves. they will also tap to the beat or rock to give themselves a soothing time to decompress. At this time I only have the smart board and classroom speaker to play music for the students. I would like to have individual Bluetooth speakers for the students to have at their work area to self sooth when they need a break from their work.
We do large group time of music everyday to help with the students listening skills, social skills, motor skills and academic areas.
By having the musical instruments it will add to the ones I already have and help give the students something hands on when counting beats following along with the music.
There are many musical slide shows I produce for the students that tie in academics. I would like to give the students the opportunity to participate with the academic slide shows by having a laser pointer/mouse to control the smart board from their desk. when we are doing a counting song, the student can use the laser pointer to count the objects on the board while sitting at their seat. When the next slide is to be brought up the student will be able to do that with the wireless mouse. This gives the students a part of the learning and helps them to retain the information better.
