My students need personal CD players, with batteries, to listen to reading as a fundamental component of Daily 5.

My Students

My first grade students are eager to read. Listening to Reading is an essential component to our Daily 5 program. Students have the opportunity to listen to recorded books on CD. They listen to hear how fluent readers read, become engaged in the story, and improve their comprehension.

My first grade students are voracious readers.

They read independently, with partners, and with myself. However, they especially enjoy reading along with books on CD. Daily 5 is the favorite part of many of my student's day. Using personal CD players allows my students to choose a book they are interested in and enjoy listening to a fluent reader read.

My Project

My students will use the personal CD players each school day to listen to books on CD. They are an essential component to our Daily 5 time. Students rotate between 5 choices during our reading block time. Without adequate materials students do not have this option.

This project will improve my classroom in many ways.

It will provide motivation for each student in my classroom to listen to fluent reading. My students can also engage in comprehension skills essential to learning to read. They can work on story retell, character analysis, making predictions, and so much more.
