Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a wonderful group of kids who love to come to school and learn. Many of them come from single parent homes where the parent is working hard to make a better life for their child. The majority of my students are English Language Learners who have only been in the country for one or two years. Our school services low income families where a majority of the students receive a free lunch.
My students are working really hard to learn English and do their homework but, they struggle at home because their parents don't speak English.
A lot of the parents are working two or more jobs and don't have time to read to their kids or they get home after the students are asleep. My students need to listen to books being read to them in English in order to learn the language.
My Project
My students are English Language Learners who have been in the U.S. for a short time. They are eager to learn English but are unable to have books read to them at home. These books will help my students to develop their background knowledge on a variety of topics.
These books will provide a way for my students to learn about the world in a fun and exciting way.
The books will provide a lot of background knowledge that they may normally not be exposed to at home. My students will be able to listen to these books while I am working with other students in the classroom. I believe that these books will help my students to learn English in a fun and exciting way.
