My 2nd grade students are eager to learn and build on the success they have had with reading in first grade. Some students; however, have not had a lot of success in the process, and this project will allow these students to interact with high quality literature.
My students are inquisitive, bright, caring, and hungry for learning.
They love listening to read alouds and hearing a great story. They crave new information, and absorb high quality literature faster than I can expose them to it!
The majority of my students do not have the privilege of hearing books at home due to single-parent families, and/or access to books due to poverty.
Not one day goes by in my classroom without several teacher read-alouds. It's my favorite thing to do with my students, and they come to me throughout the day asking me to read a book they are dying to hear. I would love to be able to have the flexibility of handing them a CD player and a book so they can quench their thirst for reading even when I am not able to read to them.
My Project
Having these portable CD players in my classroom will enable my students to listen to high quality literature even when I am not available to read to them. They will be exposed to a model reader, and their love for learning will grow each time. My students will learn that books can teach them things, persuade them to change, and entertain them all at the same time.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom by allowing my students to break down the barrier that their limited reading ability creates in gaining access to high quality literature.
My student's lives will be better when they are able to engage with stories regardless of their reading ability.
