This is my third year teaching in a low-income community, it is my purpose to give students the best possible environment in my classroom. More than 70% of the students at our school come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. I think of Daniel Webster as a second home for our students. I create a safe, encouraging, and loving environment where all my students know that mistakes are marvelous.
My students are curious, compassionate, and hungry to learn!
They are excited to explore the world, and my role at Daniel Webster school is to give them every opportunity to do so. The future is bright for my students!
My Project
My students need headphones to use with computer based intervention programs. We use specific literacy and math programs online such as Lexia, Imagine Learning, and Freckle so students can work at their own pace, and lessons can fit the needs of each individual student. My students need to be able to hear the program in order to understand vowel sounds, syllabication, stories, letter sounds, and directions.
Our current headphones shake, rattle, and no longer work; we are unable to use the computer based intervention programs my students so desperately need.
The headphones I currently have are quickly dwindling into a few pairs of headphones used for the entire class. These headphones have been used for about five years, and they are finally breaking at an astronomical rate. Almost every day, students come up to me with headphones that rattle, and only work on one side.
For the time being, I have to tell my students to continue using the half-broken headphones. We take such good care of our classroom materials, and teaching my students responsibility is a priority in my classroom. We would sincerely appreciate a new set of headphones that can be used for years to come.
