This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a Title I school in the heart of Miami, FL where Spanish it is more common to hear than English in school and at home. 98% of my students receive free lunch.

I teach English Language Arts and Reading to two fifth grade classes.

Ten percent of my students are Special Education students, forty percent of my students are ESOL levels 1-4, ninety percent of my class is of Hispanic descent.

We are using every learning modality available to us to reach our students and inspire them to learn English and overcome learning obstacles.

My Project

Wireless headsets will provide my students the opportunity to listen to the texts online. This will help the students who are learning the English Language and the learning disabled students as well as the auditory learners. Students who cannot afford to buy their own headsets will be able to check them out and use them at home. In class, we will use them during Differentiated instruction or in an independent reading center. They will also be used by students who have that as an accommodation during assessments. ESOL students will benefit from being able to listen to the stories in the reading books as well.
