My Project

I am a teacher at a K-12 school. One additional and very exciting role I fill at my school is that of the PTA teacher liaison. Each month our K-6th grade teachers choose 1 student who exemplifies extraordinary character traits both in and out of the classroom setting.

Motivating students to become productive citizens in our society is extremely near and dear to my heart.

Our school's student of month program honors the students with the traits industries and companies seek in their employers. I create the list of these character traits, send the list to the other K-6th grade teachers, and then collect the papers which indicate the "winner" for each month's student of month according to the character trait.

Some examples of the sought after traits for student of month are: courage, respect, responsibility, and self-discipline. These traits and others are taught in the classroom setting and reinforced in our school's library during mini-lessons. Every other month, students are honored at a ceremony, with family and friends invited and celebrated as the "Student of the Month."

At the end of the school year, May 2024, we will honor the top 40 elementary students in the entire school. May 2023 was the first year we honored and celebrated our "Top Cats." Our school's mascot is a Bobcat, so teachers nominate the students with the most extraordinary character traits exemplified. 20 male and 20 female students were honored as the "Top Cats."

Our school is a small, rural school and we do not receive an abundance of additional funding. I am requesting your help, as donors, to provide incentives for these amazing students. The items requested are headphones to plug into chrome books, gel pens and colorful notepads for the students to keep and use daily!
