I teach in a high poverty/low income area with a high population of English Language Learners (ELLs). Currently, I have twenty-one students in my class. My students love coming to school each day and seeing what's in store for the new day ahead.
Most of my students live in the same community where our school is located.
Since we are in a rural area, access to resources in the community is often difficult. I aim to provide a literature rich environment to meet the needs of a variety of reading levels within my classroom.
My Project
I want to add a listening section to our growing classroom library. Students of all levels will benefit from being able to listen to books. Beginning readers will learn to match spoken words to text and more advanced readers will be able to use the listening materials to fine tune reading skills, in addition to listening to longer chapter books on audio.
Student's deserve an opportunity to develop a love of reading in the same ways that adults do.
This listening station will be utilized each day during our small group reading rotations. The audio splitters will allow more than one student to use equipment at a time. No listening station would be complete without pillow seating to snuggle up and get comfortable.
