My students need a CD player to learn through music, LEGO's to build and create, a bee bot to reinforce what they learned about the arts, and glue sponges to make great pieces of art!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a inner city school that is pre-k -6th grade. My students are bright, energetic and have a love for learning. They come to school in hopes of finding a safe and comforting environment where they can thrive.
Our classroom is a close knit community that works together to ensure the success of everyone.
Many of my students are second language learners and 100% of my students receive free lunch. Although many of students come from generational poverty they still show up each day with a eagerness to learn and succeed. I strive to provide a classroom where my students can explore and be engaged in learning.
My Project
This new cd player is a must! The cd player we have now is old and outdated, yet we still use it on a daily basis. I have found that the kids have a hard time hearing the sing along cd's due to its of volume. However, the new cd player will allow the students to sing along and learn through music! Many students learn best through music and this will help them develope their skills in skip counting all the way to letter sounds. I also love to play music as they journal or create with art materials, such as legos.
Legos are the building blocks of imagination!
Legos are like clay of the modern world! You can shape them, unshape it, and smash it only to replace it with new ideas! That is why I am also asking for legos to build, design, and create works of art! Students love to build and learn in the lego center. Currently I am borrowing them from a co-worker but she is moving next year. I have seen my kids flourish in this center as they build, design, discuss, and create the most amazing structures.
Another idea I had is after the kids learned primary and secondary colors they could use a bee bot to reinforce what they have learned. One way I plan on doing this is by giving them a card that says red+blue= then they will program the bee bot to move to the purple square. Not only are they practicing primary and secondary colors but they will be learning basic coding! I could also have them program the bee bot to move to the piece of art that makes them happy, sad ect.. The bee bots allow art and Technology to work hand in hand!
