I teach at a Title I Community School in an urban area. Our many families make up a diverse population of different backgrounds and cultures. Our school serves mostly lower economic families and we have 99% of our children qualify for the free and reduced-price lunch program.
My students are joyful, full of energy and eager to learn.
I want to have every resource available to help them develop and be successful. Our school staff has a passion for striving to meet all the needs of our children, so they may reach academic, social and physical goals.
My Project
Many of my students live in homes in which their family speaks a second language and their parents are unable to read books in English. Without the support and practice at home, it is especially important for them to have the opportunity to use their auditory skills to develop the concepts need to learn to read. Achieving this practice and experience will enable them to be successful in their education.
My students will increase their love of reading while developing reading skills as they listen to their favorite picture books.
Their auditory development will improve and they will also get a better understanding of the reading process. The listening center will help them build many skills and concepts such as fluency and expression, language skills and comprehension.
