My students need a variety of opportunities to hear stories read to them. I am looking to increase their exposure to literature and incorporate a listening center in the classroom.
My students are energetic, curious, and eager to learn. Many of my students are from low-income households. Eighty percent of my students are English Language Learners. Many of them come from diverse background are immigrants to the United States. For some students, it is their first experience in school and their first time hearing a story read to them. My students potential is immeasurable. They have already have grown and achieved so much this year!
Many students do not have opportunities to hear stories read to them because of the level of English spoken in their homes.
I am looking to increase their exposure to literature and incorporate a listening center in the classroom.
My Project
In order to provide more literacy opportunities for my students I need books with matching CDs to use in the listening center. These books and CDs are essential materials for my classroom in order to foster a love of reading. I am looking to for various books from different genres that will appeal to children. A diverse collection of books with varying levels of readability from the classic fairy tales to easy reader books would be very helpful to my students.
Many of my students do not have the opportunity to hear stories read to them at home because of language barriers along with educational struggles.
Nothing compares to having a story read to a child it opens their eyes to a world of opportunities. Having an extensive classroom library will help students develop a love of reading!!
