Help me give my students access to nonfiction texts with book sets and CDs. The headphones will replace some that came with our listening station as a gift a few years ago but are no longer working.

My Students

Our third grade is comprised of three units of eighteen students each. We spend our days learning together in a three-unit school in a community of about 60,000. Our school is a close-knit, inclusive learning community made up of students from many different backgrounds. Each individual student is an amazing member of a community of learners. They work hard every day to be active participants in our school's learning community.

The personality of this group is fun-filled.

They think learning is fun and say so often and with exuberance. Many of them state at the end of each day, "This was the best day ever!" They also express their joy of learning when they participate fully in the classroom and independent activities.

Because we share students throughout the day, we get the opportunity to develop relationships with all of the students in our grade level. A project in one classroom has the opportunity to impact the entire grade level.

My Project

With these supplies, my students will gain access to nonfiction texts using our listening center. Not all students can read at grade level, making their access to some texts limited. With books on CD, all students can access the reading material. I have asked for books about animals, which are of high interest to students at this age. This class, in particular has a real love for animals.

Also, it is just fun for people of any age to listen to books being read aloud.

My students enjoy listening to reading very much, however, two of our sets of headphones have stopped working, probably from the amount of use they have sustained over the years.
