My class is composed of young students ( 3-4 years old) with disabilities. I have students with a wide range of varying abilities. We have intellectual disabilities, along with children with strictly physical disabilities so we serve a wide range of children.
This is the first experience away from home for many of my students.
I want the class room to be more inviting by adding music to my classroom. Adding music to our environment would create an opportunity for the students to sing, dance and move to music in a fun and inviting way.
Having a listening station in my classroom will mazimize their learning by allowing children to work alone to listen to stories and music in the classroom. The ear-phones will provide an opportunity to enjoy listening alone, while the CD player will allow us to listen to stories or music as a class. My children need to hear language used in a variety of ways, whether through songs, stories or in poems. Allowing them to hear language used in recreational ways will increase exposure to words in their everyday environment. Providing music will increase movement, singing and promote the development of motor skills for these young students.
