Linda Daly says "Storytellers are individuals who enjoy creating a holiday for the mind.” My students are developing readers who love where a good story can take them.
My first graders are a burst of potential.
Like flowers ready to blossom, they are eager, enthusiastic, and hungry to learn. They can be found huddled together sharing new book in the Reading Center, showing their creativity regardless of whether its Art, Writing, or Math, or getting hands-on in Science. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and each has a different home life, but together in my classroom we are family and as a family, we grow together. My school and classroom strives to create a literacy-rich environment for my students where they can make use of available resources to develop a love of reading and implement interactive learning whenever possible.
My Project
These materials are going to replace our aged and broken listening center. The old wired listening center constantly had issues with tangled headphone cords that would take up all of the table space. With a new wireless listening center, the students will be free to spread out their books or work on their story related project while they listen. In some cases, students might even be able to listen to stories from their desks as they complete a reading comprehension activity, or some calming music while they focus on a class assignment.
Your donation will benefit the students of this year's class, and those that will follow.
It will help each student, from my lowest developing reader to my more advanced students tackling a chapter book. It will provide soothing music to students easily distracted or a welcome brain break to the entire class with a story from Robert Munsch or an exercise with Jack Hartmann. With your support, it will help me to create for my students an interactive learning environment.
