Our elementary school is a public, Title I school. 638 students attend our school and identify primarily as White, non-Hispanic; Black, non-Hispanic; and Asian/Pacific Islander. 54% of the 638 students here are paying reduced lunch prices. The student to teacher ratio is 19:1. The 638 students have varying needs and are a diverse group of learners.
"We believe that all children should have an equal opportunity to experience the joy of learning and to achieve their fullest potential" is the vision statement at our school.
The dedicated staff of our school, together with a supportive community, is committed to providing an innovative, standards-based curriculum that promotes social and academic growth designed to prepare students to be responsible, contributing citizens of the 21st century.
We are proud of our various awards and recognitions that include National Blue Ribbon, Red Carpet Schools, Palmetto Gold, AdVancED STEM certified, Reading Renaissance and Honor Roll School to name a few. To continue this growth and history of excellence we strive to find and implement the latest technology in our classroom setting.
My Project
Our students use technology daily. We have an assortment of technology in our classroom including 2 Chromebooks, 2 laptops, 2 desktops and 2 iPads. We feel very fortunate to have access to this technology. However, our technology usage can be maximized if students can pair the existing technology with quality headphones.
One of our favorite educational applications, Study Island, allows the students to learn in all subject areas and apply their learning through videos, questioning and gaming application formats.
The availability of headphones would allow all students the opportunity to utilize all of these applications in Study Island.
Additionally, the headphones will be used to strengthen the use of other educational applications used in the classroom including MyOn, Accelerated Reader, Google Classroom, Khan Academy, and YouTube as well as various apps on the iPads. Currently, students are sharing two headphones. This situation slows the learning process, creates distractions in the learning environment, and wastes valuable instructional time. With new headphones, we can allow more students the opportunity for auditory learning experiences.
