Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the privilege to teach 2nd Grade at a diverse charter school in Las Vegas. My school serves a low income population in which most students are English language learners. These students make up a large percentage of my 2nd Grade class. A portion of these students only receive exposure to English here in the school. They work with great enthusiasm and effort to improve their English and progress toward a mastery of the language.
I teach at a Title I School in Nevada in which a high percentage of my students come from bilingual homes and receive free or reduced price lunch.
My students face tough obstacles in their lives but arrive to school smiling and ready to learn. They love their teachers and they adore their principal. Our school truly is a community – a family. We each do our part, as student and teacher work side by side with one mission in mind: our students’ success. Each classroom in our school has their college graduation date written on the board. We help the students set their goals high and we strive to help them achieve those goals.
My Project
As a teacher, I am dedicated to helping English Language Learners (ELL) gain a mastery of the English language. These are students whose first language is not English and many of them only have exposure to English during school hours. One of the tools we have to support and assist these students is our online literacy programs. These programs are research-based and designed to improve and enhance the students' English capabilities. These students love these programs and it makes learning English fun for them while providing them with individual challenges. These programs have already shown tremendous impact in our students' progress and English skills and we want them to keep working hard. However, part of the required tasks for many of these programs involves listening intently to your program's instructions and completing their tasks.
My students need headphones so they can complete all the required tasks of their online literacy programs and gain crucial English skills.
The headphones will allow my students to complete their online programs and achieve the highest levels of progress in their English mastery. These headphones will facilitate my students in their quest to learn how to read, write, and speak the English language. Most importantly, this addition will help prevent them from falling behind in their reading and writing skills and prepare them to be bilingual students with a bright future.
