Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is nestled in a small rural town in South Carolina. We have a high poverty rate and over half of our student population does not speak English as their native language. One of the best ways to deepen our student knowledge is by providing real life experiences! Unfortunately, we are not always able to do all the experiences we prefer due to funding. It's the worst feeling when you know what's beneficial and funding gets in the way.

My Project

We all learn in different ways and at different times... however, most learn best through experiences. Our students can read books, do online research, and watch videos all about animals but the opportunity to actually SEE animals in their habitats, observe their behaviors, note their surroundings, and more will deepen knowledge and understanding beyond a classroom experience.

We have entered an era where some of the first funds cut are for such experiences which field trips can provide.

It is crucial to provide students more real world experiences in order for them to make connections between the texts they read and the TRUE experiences they encounter.
