My students need 30 copies of The Lions of Little Rock for a multicultural lesson.
This project expired on June 27, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
The students in our school engaged in learning and serving the community where they live. There is a wide variety of learning styles in the classrooms of our school. The main commonality between all the kids is the care in the success of each other academically and emotionally. The student live in an established caring community that cares deeply about the environment. Recently a student from our community testified before the state senate on the issues of conservation of our earth.
Students will learn of a seminal event in American History by reading the novel Lions of Little Rock. From this book they will see the world from someone else perspective. They will see into the world of 1958 in a governor chose to close rather than integrate black and white children.
This new perspective will make them more flexible and engaged citizens.
The book will be read in class along with 2 other novels on the topic. Students will learn how to discuss race in order to improve opportunities for us all. the novel shows students what it was like for the students when the integrated schools reopened.
