I am a first grade English Language Development teacher at an elementary school in San Francisco's Chinatown. A majority of my students, Chinese Americans, are second language learners and come to my class every school year limited in their English speaking and writing abilities. Our classroom is the only place they're able to practice and use their English. I attempt to make the district's reading curriculum interesting and fun by applying hands-on projects. I know my students learn best when they are able to use their hands and use manipulates to learn a new grammar or phonics rule. I am seeking Lakeshore's Linking Language Cubes Set for my classroom. The Linking Cubes have letters and words prewritten on them, and builds upon the student's needs and ability. The Linking Cubes are cubes that require the student to physically link letters together to make words, link words together to make sentences, and then link sentences based on one topic. I've seen other teachers use the Linking Cubes in their classroom and want my students to articipate in this experience, also. I am asking for two sets; therefore when a group of four students is working with the cubes, they don't need to fight over the cubes or wait for their partner to finish. Please help us 'build' words and sentences. Thank you very much for your generous consideration.
