Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical school day begins early with breakfast being served. Most students walk to school. I would like my students to be aware of upcoming important events, such as testing dates. Most students do not have Internet access at home. It is challenging to keep parents informed.
Our students are mostly of Hispanic descent.
We are in a poor urban community. There are approximately 1,000 students at this school. The grades range from pre-K to eighth grade. Most do not have Internet service at home.
We try to communicate by sending flyers home, however, many papers do not make it home or are left in student folders. District phone messages are also another source of communication, however, many families often change phone numbers. An LED display can be a great source to find information.
My Project
We need an LED display can provide an easy source of communication of important information. There are approximately 1,000 students that attend our school. All of these students could benefit from the LED school sign. The sign will be displayed in front of the school building, near the main entrance.
All parents and students can be kept informed of all important test dates, special events, important reminders or even students' achievements. Since our school is in a poor urban area, most do not have access to the Internet. It is difficult for the younger students and even for the older ones, to even remind parents to sign important papers. Parents come home late at night and students forget. An LED sign can become a constant reminder all day anytime parents are passing the area.
Since our district has a strict budget, most of the schools do not have an LED sign.
Fundraisers such as this one will help our school achieve this goal. It will bring our students, parents and community to the 21st century world of digital communication.
