I need to create a professional library of books about coding, so I can develop hands-on activities for my students in a way that is accessible to them.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Through the years, I have had students of all ages and ability levels and have enjoyed working with and have learned a lot from all of them. All of my students have visual impairments and my job is to help make the world accessible to them. We do a lot of work on learning how to travel in the community and are now starting to learn about coding and how putting coding steps together is similar to putting the steps of a route together -- you have to make all the right choices to get to your goal.
My Project
I've been fortunate to be able to introduce my students to coding and have seen a connection between creating code to make a robot go to a desired location and planning a route in the community to get to a desired location. My students who have been coding are very excited and are looking for more activities. My knowledge about coding is growing, but I could use some more help. These books about coding will help me develop those skills and will inspire me in creating activities that can be presented to my students in an accessible, meaningful way.
