My Students

I am a special education teacher at one of the best schools around. We are a Pre-K-5 school with over 1000 students from diverse backgrounds. We are part of a larger learning community, and we engage our neighboring community for food banks, needy child fund, a tele-medicine clinic, club day, leadership events, parent nights, Good News Club, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girls Inc and so much more!

We are a "Leader In Me" school where everyone can be a leader.

Everyone has genius, and we develop the whole child by building relationships and empowering students. We are a diverse community. Despite our large size, we partner up for many things and relationships are built beyond your own classroom. We do club days where students from multiple grades work together on things that interest them. Older students often give up their recess to help the younger students practice sight words and math facts.

My Project

Writing is probably my students LEAST favorite thing to do. They struggle with forming letters, spacing, reversals, pressure and so much more. Some students do get help from an occupational therapist once a week, but in 3rd grade writing is expected to come naturally. Daily we use dry erase boards and markers for practice, but they do not have lines. The boards I am requesting have writing lines on one side, and are blank on the other. This will be helpful with our daily spell and write word practice and sentence dictation.

I will be able to give my students lines to guide their writing on any classroom worksheet in three sizes that match their individual needs with the legi-liners.

I just add the lines to anything they are writing on and they instantly have the visual supports they need to write more legibly.

I am also asking for portrait oriented paper with lines that will help when students are writing longer works like paragraphs, stories and more. My students are learning how to write detailed paragraphs and notebook paper is hard to use and other lined paper is in landscape orientation and looks babyish for third graders.

My students also love the colorful erasable pens. They are more motivated to write in color and gain confidence to make mistakes knowing there is an eraser to fix it.
