I teach Kindergarten Students in a New York Public School. My school is a Title I School. The children come from many different backgrounds. Some are new to the country and some participate in the ESL (English as a Second Language) Program. The children are taught Balanced Literacy (i.e. Shared Reading, Read Aloud, Independent Reading, and Guided Reading), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, and Gym.
In New York, we have been faced with budgets cuts in the upcoming year. In order for children to learn concepts, they need to materials to be able to perform such tasks. Learning especially for young children needs to be a hands-on experience. This is your chance to help our future learn about math concepts!
Helping children learn and understand about graphs is a great way to introduce essential math skills into their lives. Children learn not only by teachers reading to them about concepts but by practicing what they have been taught in the lesson. Children need to understand by touching, looking, and observing the objects in their hands. The materials that have been selected will help children accomplish this task.
What a great feeling to bring knowledge into the lives of our children! You have a wonderful opportunity to help children learn and understand what graphs are and how to represent them in context. You are helping our future succeed!
