Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students at our school are ALL special to me because I get to see EACH individual student once a week. They let me know how much they want to be good readers because they want to become good leaders in their futures. They want to show their best expectations when they visit our library. To be able to see this WANT in them, excites me and encourages me to have a highly effective and positive attitude toward my students.
My Project
Our students need to be motivated to read. Sitting on a carpet, and in floor chairs, will be a special privilege. It will encourage our students to want to read and at the same time enjoy what they are reading. This is a perfect way to build better readers. Since we have no carpet, but yet, nice, clean, ceiling and floor tiles, we have no special place for students to do this type of fun reading.
On the day of August 26, 2017, Hurricane Harvey made landfall on the Texas Coast.
Destruction and devastation had dominated the news and social media. It caused torrential rain for days, causing deadly floods and billions of dollars worth of damage. In times of tragedy, we see moments of human resilience and empathy. Disasters have a way of bringing out the best in humanity. Neighbors helping neighbors, people donating money and food and goods for those in need and more. Stories of incredible human endurance, kindness, and bravery have emerged in Harvey's aftermath. Our school district was significantly affected by Hurricane Harvey. It affected our schools start dates. And, needless to say, our school buildings had leaking rooftops which lead to our classroom carpets having to be pulled out. Fortunately, we had minimal damage to our library books. It could have been worse, such as it was for our neighboring cities. We were blessed!
By donating to our project, you will help increase the "love of student reading" and at the same time increase academic achievement in literacy.
